About us

At the Sierra Club, we believe in the power of togetherness. Together, we remain committed to the fight for a healthy climate built on a foundation of environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice – a future where all people benefit from a healthy, thriving planet and a direct connection to nature. As the climate crisis and deeply entrenched systemic racism all fuel inequity, we will continue to fight for a bold, transformational agenda that recognizes the interconnectedness between our planet, our humanity, and our democracy. By recognizing that our destinies are tied, we continue to name that all things are fundamentally connected, and the overlap between ecology, race, gender, and representative government will move to either advance our collective humanity or to oppress it. Sierra Club is comprised of staff across the country and a network of local chapters that support our grassroots engagement. We are also proud to be a unionized employer, with two labor unions representing more than half of our employees. Please view www.sierraclub.org/careers/ for more information.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has approved permitting for the CP2 liquefied methane gas, or LNG, export facility. CP2 LNG is estimated to have lifecycle annual greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to about 20 times the annual emissions of the Willow Project, more than 42 million gas-powered cars, or 46 coal-fired power plants. This project would be a disaster for our climate and poison the air and water of communities in the Gulf Coast with cancer-causing chemicals. President Biden and the Department of Energy can still stop it. Demand they stop new LNG projects now at the 🔗 https://bit.ly/49MW5xp

The latest annual shareholder voting season showed that investors want more corporate transparency and action on climate change, in spite of all the hot air from the "anti-ESG" crowd. But it's also abundantly clear that investors need to do much more through their proxy voting, corporate engagement, portfolio strategies, policy advocacy and more to actually mitigate climate change as a systemic risk to their client's long-term savings. Read and share the latest blog from Sierra Club's Jessye Waxman and Allie Lindstrom that unpacks some of the key takeaways from the 2024 AGM season: https://lnkd.in/ejy2376y

Shareholder voting during "AGM season" is often a great litmus test for understanding trends in the investment community. This season made clear that there is much more interest in corporate transparency on #climate than there is for measures that would roll back responsible practices on #ESG. Showing once again that financial fiduciaries must stop kowtowing to the irresponsible climate denier fringe, and get serious about adopting investment and voting practices on issues like #climatechange that pose the greatest long-term risk to their clients and beneficiaries. Read on for more key takeaways on the 2024 AGM season from me and Allie Lindstrom:

The U.S. Supreme Court just gave polluters and the states that fail to regulate them a pass to threaten our clean air. By pausing implementation of the Environmental Protection Agency’s rule to address harmful air pollution that crosses state lines, known as the “Good Neighbor Plan,” SCOTUS is turning away from decade-old air pollution standards. As we prepare for a summer that could be one of the worst smog seasons on record, this is a devastating outcome for public health and our communities. We won’t give up the fight for cleaner air! https://bit.ly/3zwveJm

Did you know that forests absorb and store carbon better than any other ecosystem? They can store carbon in soils, organic matter, and living and dead trees. Older trees generally absorb more carbon each year than their younger counterparts, making old forests one of our most valuable climate solutions. And the vast majority of our older forests are on federally managed lands – especially our #NationalForests. That is why we are asking the U.S. Forest Service to stop logging old-growth forests and protect "mature" (aka future old-growth) trees too! Take action at the 🔗 https://bit.ly/4eQv14e

As soon as Thursday, The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) could approve permitting for the CP2 liquefied methane gas, or LNG, export facility. Proposed by Venture Global, CP2 LNG is estimated to have lifecycle annual greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to about 20 times the annual emissions of the Willow Project, more than 42 million gas-powered cars, or 46 coal-fired power plants. This project would be disastrous for our climate, toxic for the air we breathe, and impact the fishing livelihoods of local communities in the Gulf.
