Eine positive Einstellung gegenüber Risiken zu schaffen ist ein zentraler Baustein für Innovation auf der einen Seite, als auch für ein positives Erleben der eigenen Arbeit, da es den Mitarbeitenden aufzeigt, dass ihre eigenen Ideen und Vorstellungen von Belang sind. Es ist die Aufgabe von Führungskräften, hierfür die entsprechenden Möglichkeiten zu schaffen - Bereiche für eigene Entscheidungen, die groß genug sind, um einen echten Beitrag zu schaffen, zugleich aber auch geschützt genug, um das Risiko für den einzelnen Mitarbeitenden auch wieder angemessen zu begrenzen. Letztendlich bedeutet dies Empowerment. Und dies ist eine der wichtigsten und zugleich schönsten Aufgaben von Leadership.

Edge comes from finding a different path and adding efficiency to a process. Following the path of others rarely produces anything more than average. You must explore and be willing to suggest alternatives that may be rejected by your peers. That's fine. Humble yourself and take the rejection and use it as a building block. There literally is no creativity without risk. Buy into it and wake up to the fact that when you are comfortable, you're likely not pushing the line and need to explore more deeply.

In my experience, there is nothing more. important than diversity of thought, when you're trying to find the best solutions for your customers and for your organization. When you're trying to define creative ways of solving a problem, you have to leverage the diversity of thought that exists within your team and your organization. And if you don't have that, then that's a great moment to start investing in creating that diversity within your team and organization.

Meiner Erfahrung nach macht es Sinn, im Team den Wert und Nutzen der Diversität wiederkehrend zu thematisieren und zu Veranschaulichen, um auch im Team auf individueller Ebene eine Offenheit für die Begleitumstände zu schaffen.

I have worked with a team in the past where there were just men. Same ethnic background. Same age demographic. They went to the same clubs, watched the same sports and had the same social circle. They were great together as a team. But I also worked with a team which was a lot more diverse. Different age groups. Diverse ethnic backgrounds. Even their work experience and academic backgrounds were widely different from one another. Guess what team was just better? You guessed it, the 2nd. When different mindsets come together on one table. Everybody learns new things. Everybody grows. There's an exchange of ideas and information and perspectives that simply is not possible in the first team I mentioned.

Be that restrictions on time, cash flow, or lack of human capital, removing the limitations from the problem-solving or brainstorming process will lead to greater creativity. These ideas or solutions can be adjusted for reality and applied as you conquer those daunting challenges.

Ex - set up regular innovation meetings where team members can present their ideas for new projects or improvements. Even if it doesn’t work out, the experience can lead to valuable insights and innovation.

Team-Fokus und Zusammenarbeit sind wichtig für den Erfolg von Teams, die sich mit hochagilen oder hochkomplexen Anforderungen konfrontiert sehen. Insbesondere bei Rollen, denen ein kompetitiver Charakter typisch ist (z.B. im Sales) ist es sinnvoll, Zusammenarbeit pro-aktiv zu fördern. Dies kann zum Beispiel über entsprechend gewählte OKRs oder über Team-Projekte geschehen. Von besonderer Bedeutung ist es, dies aus Leadership Perspektive nicht einfach als beliebige Zusatzoption zu kennzeichnen, sondern als notwendige Anforderung für eine gute Leistungsbeurteilung zu deklarieren. Erst dadurch wird Team-Fokus und Zusammenarbeit auch entsprechend gewertet und gefördert.

You can't expect team members to put extra efforts in completing critical deliverables unless you show them that you are equally putting your efforts to achieve your team and Org goals. Celebrate creative achievements and recognize individuals who contribute innovative ideas.

Practice Self-Reflection on a periodic basis. #1 - At the end of each week, reflect on your accomplishments and challenges. This can help you understand your strengths and areas for improvement, boosting your confidence and resilience. #2 - Break down large tasks into smaller, manageable goals. Ex - if you have a major project, set daily or weekly targets to stay on track and avoid feeling overwhelmed. #3 - Add the practice of Gratitude (daily) Combining #1, #2 and #3 creates wonders. I came across this hack in a leadership conference and tried casually, the results were amazing.

Foster an environment where team members feel comfortable sharing ideas and opinions. Many a times it happens that junior team members are not comfortable in sharing their thoughts and they are not able to take part in important discussions. Hold regular brainstorming sessions where everyone’s input is valued.

Be Open to New Ideas - When your team suggests an unconventional approach to a project, don’t dismiss it immediately. Instead, consider the potential benefits and give it a try. Build a culture of innovation but be adaptable - When taking risks, be prepared to pivot if things don’t go as planned. If a new initiative isn’t delivering the desired results, be flexible enough to change course. This adaptability ensures that you can navigate challenges and find alternative solutions.
