Console exclusives are a thing of the past. Studios know that if they want to maximize the profitability of their video game, they have no choice but to release it on as many platforms as possible. Sony is already bringing its main exclusives to PC, a move that would have seemed unthinkable five years ago. And in fact, this news features a game that is currently exclusive to PlayStation 5: Stellar Blade.

ShiftUp, the development studio behind the game, has spoken about this exclusivity and a possible release for PC, something they already mentioned last month. In the words of Jaewoo Ahn, CFO of the company, “at the moment we are looking for a PC version of Stellar Blade, which we believe would be a fantastic way to monetize the IP again”.

If the studio is looking to create a PC version, what is preventing it? Continuing in this vein, the company’s CEO, Kim Hyung-Tae, has pointed out that while “they are considering a PC version of Stellar Blade, they cannot comment on when it will arrive exactly or if it will be released or not due to the contractual relationship“.

With this latest statement, the CEO of ShiftUp makes it clear that what is currently limiting the PC version of Stellar Blade is the contract signed with Sony. If we take as reference other agreements signed with different video games, the clauses usually focus on temporary exclusivities with the launch platform. In the specific case of Stellar Blade, everything points to the title having a temporary exclusivity on PlayStation 5 (minimum of one year, which is usually what is signed), and from there other scenarios can be considered.

Between the PC and console versions, it is worth noting that ShiftUp has announced that Stellar Blade has sold over one million units. Considering it is a new IP and was released in April, the figure is really good.
