There is no doubt that if we mention FromSoftware, the vast majority of the public will think of Dark Souls or Elden Ring. In fact, they have even given rise to a new genre of video games, the Soulslike, something that very, very few are capable of doing, especially nowadays when it seems that everything has been invented. And yet, for Hidetaka Miyazaki, CEO of the studio, it was another game that changed everything: Sekiro.

Faster, it’s war

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was a game from 2019 set in 16th century Japan and won several game of the year awards. However, for Miyazaki, it meant something more: the first attempt to make a fast and fluid game that he has mastered over the years.

“Perhaps in Sekiro it is more clearly seen what I believe philosophy can embody. And personally, I believe we can take it to another level, refine and perfect that mechanic even more, but I think Sekiro was a great turning point”. And, in fact, it is noticeable that, for example, Elden Ring takes a lot from that game and mixes it with the style of Bloodborne or the Souls.

Will there ever be a sequel? Never say never, but the studio seems to be focused on other types of fantasy games mixed with RPGs. The only thing that is clear is that every game that comes out of the studio will now carry, indelibly marked, the mark of the wolf. The mark of an unforgettable game. The mark of Sekiro.
